Girl of My Dreams
This body of work explores dreams and their persistence and more specifically the “Girl of My Dreams”. More times than not dreams vanish before our eyes are fully open. Those, that linger a little longer are often foggy and blurred before they fade away. The girl of my dreams is always changing, moving, an elusive apparition, which continually evolves but remains timeless.
I used vintage medium format film cameras and long exposures to create these images. The combination, along with the black and white film, I felt captured and expressed this dream world and its persistence, or lack thereof, the best. This work draws on the contributions of the early Pictoralists and Surrealists, the technology of the mid-1900’s and today. It is in turn a commentary on the persistence of photography, its styles, mediums and relevance as an avenue of artistic expression.
